The University of Illinois at Chicago Cancer Center is the only cancer center in the State of Illinois with links to six health sciences colleges-medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, allied health sciences and the School of Public Health-as well as colleges of engineering and liberal arts and sciences.
The UIC Cancer Center also has connections with regional campuses in Rockford and Peoria and with the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
Research in the UIC Cancer Center is organized into four broad thematic programs that are mechanism-based and focused on making discoveries that can lead to improvements in cancer treatment, diagnosis and prevention. They are tightly linked to clinical research and treatment working groups in areas such as colon cancer, breast cancer, brain cancer, ovarian cancer, prostate cancer, and liver cancer. There are more than 100 researchers in the Cancer Center and total cancer-related research funding exceeds $42 million annually
The UIC Cancer Center is directed by Gary D. Kruh, MD, PhD, who was appointed in 2007.
